Sedimentation Rate (ESR)

The Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) test measures how quickly red blood cells (erythrocytes) settle at the bottom of a test tube filled with blood. The rate at which the red blood cells fall can indicate the presence of inflammation in the body. An increased ESR can be associated with various medical conditions, including infections, autoimmune diseases, and chronic inflammatory disorders.
