Hep C Ab

The Hepatitis C Antibody (HCV Ab) test screens for antibodies to the Hepatitis C virus (HCV) in the blood. A positive result indicates that an individual has been exposed to the virus at some point, suggesting either a current or past infection. This test is essential for diagnosing Hepatitis C, especially in individuals at risk, such as those with a history of intravenous drug use, blood transfusions before 1992, or other exposure to contaminated blood. If the HCV Ab test is positive, follow-up tests, such as HCV RNA testing, may be performed to determine if the infection is active and assess viral load.
