Hemoglobin A1C

The Hemoglobin A1C (HbA1C) test measures the average blood sugar (glucose) levels over the past 2 to 3 months by assessing the percentage of hemoglobin in the blood that is coated with sugar. It is a key test for monitoring diabetes and assessing how well blood sugar is being controlled over time. An elevated HbA1C level indicates poor blood sugar control, which increases the risk of diabetes-related complications such as heart disease, kidney disease, and nerve damage.
