The Hemoglobin (Hgb) test measures the amount of hemoglobin in the blood, a protein in red blood cells responsible for carrying oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body and returning carbon dioxide to the lungs for exhalation. Hemoglobin levels are a crucial indicator of blood health and oxygen-carrying capacity. Low hemoglobin levels may indicate anemia, blood loss, or nutritional deficiencies, while high levels can suggest conditions like dehydration, lung disease, or polycythemia.
