Hematocrit

The Hematocrit (HCT) test measures the proportion of red blood cells (RBCs) in the blood. It is a key indicator of a person's blood health and is typically included in a Complete Blood Count (CBC). Hematocrit is expressed as a percentage, reflecting how much of the blood is made up of red blood cells, which are responsible for transporting oxygen throughout the body. A low hematocrit level can indicate conditions like anemia, blood loss, or nutritional deficiencies, while a high hematocrit level may suggest dehydration, polycythemia, or lung or heart disease.
