Glutamic Acid Decarboxylase-65 Antibody

The Glutamic Acid Decarboxylase-65 Antibody (GAD65 Ab) test measures the presence of antibodies against the enzyme glutamic acid decarboxylase, specifically the 65-kilodalton isoform (GAD65). This enzyme is involved in the synthesis of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), an important neurotransmitter in the brain. The GAD65 antibody test is primarily used to help diagnose Type 1 diabetes mellitus and other autoimmune conditions, such as Stiff Person Syndrome.
