Glucose, 24 Hour Urine

The Glucose, 24 Hour Urine test measures the amount of glucose excreted in urine over a 24-hour period. This test helps evaluate how well the body manages glucose and can be used to diagnose conditions such as diabetes mellitus or to monitor blood sugar levels in individuals already diagnosed with diabetes. In a healthy individual, glucose is typically reabsorbed by the kidneys, and minimal to no glucose is found in urine. However, elevated glucose levels in urine may indicate impaired kidney function or hyperglycemia, where excess glucose in the bloodstream exceeds the renal threshold, resulting in glucose spilling into the urine.
