GGT

GGT (Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase) is an enzyme found primarily in the liver, bile ducts, and kidneys. It plays a critical role in the metabolism of glutathione, an important antioxidant, and helps in the transfer of amino acids across cell membranes. The GGT test measures the level of this enzyme in the blood and is commonly used to assess liver function and detect liver disease or damage. Elevated GGT levels can indicate conditions such as hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, alcoholic liver disease, and bile duct obstructions.
