Estriol (E3)

Estriol (E3) is a type of estrogen primarily produced during pregnancy by the placenta. It is considered the weakest of the three main estrogens (estrone, estradiol, and estriol) and plays an important role in supporting the growth and development of the fetus and the uterine environment. Estriol levels rise significantly during pregnancy and are used as an indicator of fetal well-being. The Estriol (E3) test is often part of a maternal serum screening or quad screen to evaluate the risk of certain fetal conditions, such as Down syndrome or other chromosomal abnormalities.
