Why Take This Test? Epstein-Barr Nuclear Antigen (EBNA) IgG is a blood test that detects IgG antibodies to the Epstein-Barr virus nuclear antigen. These antibodies typically appear in the later stages of an Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection and indicate past or latent infection. The presence of EBNA IgG suggests that the individual has previously been infected with EBV and has developed long-term immunity.
