This test is commonly known as the "Monospot test" and is primarily used to diagnose infectious mononucleosis, often referred to as "mono," a viral illness caused by EBV. The presence of heterophile IgM antibodies typically indicates an active or recent EBV infection, particularly in individuals who show symptoms such as fever, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, and fatigue.
