During the procedure, the patient provides a midstream urine sample, which is collected after the initial flow to minimize contamination from bacteria in the urethra or genital area. The urine sample is then cultured on specific media that support the growth of potential pathogens. The culture is incubated to allow any present microorganisms to multiply.
