During the procedure, a sterile catheter is inserted into the bladder through the urethra, allowing for the collection of a urine sample directly from the bladder. This method minimizes contamination from bacteria that may reside in the urethra or genital area. The urine sample is then cultured on specific media that promote the growth of potential pathogens. The culture is incubated to allow any present microorganisms to multiply.
